• Behentrimonium Methosulfate and Cetearyl Alcohol: This conditioning duo works together to soften and detangle hair without causing buildup. Behentrimonium Methosulfate, a mild yet effective conditioner-softener, is known for its de-frizzing and cuticle-smoothing properties, while Cetearyl Alcohol, a fatty alcohol, lends more emollient benefits, adding slip and assisting in the detangling process.

Just to clairify we use Cetearyl Alcohol, which might raise questions due to the common association of “alcohol” with drying effects on hair. However, it’s crucial to understand the significant difference between drying types of alcohol and fatty alcohols like Cetearyl Alcohol.

Drying Alcohols:

Drying alcohols, such as Isopropyl Alcohol (often used in rubbing alcohol), Ethanol, SD Alcohol, and Denatured Alcohol, are small molecule alcohols that can evaporate quickly from the skin or hair. While they’re excellent for quick-drying formulas, their rapid evaporation can strip away natural oils, leading to dry, brittle hair and irritated skin.

Fatty Alcohols (like Cetearyl Alcohol):

On the other hand, Cetearyl Alcohol belongs to a group of fatty alcohols, which are large molecule alcohols derived from natural sources like coconut or palm oil. These alcohols are quite different in their effects on the hair and skin. Instead of drying, they’re used for their emollient properties, meaning they help to soften and condition the hair. Fatty alcohols provide slip in hair care products, making detangling easier, and they can also help to lock in moisture, leaving hair feeling smooth and hydrated.

Cetearyl Alcohol acts as an emulsifying agent in our hair mist, helping to blend the formula and ensure that it smoothly coats each hair strand. This contributes to the product’s effectiveness in facilitating easy combing and preventing tangles without any of the adverse effects associated with drying alcohols.
